Karva Chauth (Hindi: करवा चौथ) is a one-day festival celebrated by Hindu women in North India in which married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. The fast is traditionally observed in the states of Rajasthan, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab. The festival falls on the fourth day after the full moon, in the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Kartik. Sometimes, unmarried women observe the fast for their fiancés or desired husbands.

A similar festival known as Chhath is observed in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and western Bihar.

Bhai Dooj Festival-Punjab-www.vishvabhraman.com


Bhai Dooj Festival is celebrated in the month of October or November. The date is not fixed and is calculated every year by the Pandits. It falls on the new moon night, approximately one day after the festival of Diwali. The name Bhai Dooj, with "bhai" meaning brother and "dooj" meaning the second day after the new moon (the day of the festival), literally means the day of the brother. Bhai Dooj is also known as the festival of Tikka. The festival of Bhaiya Duj signifies the bond of love between a brother and a sister. The sister applies tilak (saffron and vermilion) on the forehead of her brother, performs aarti and offers sweets. In return, the brother blesses her and gives her nice presents. These presents form a part of Tikka celebrations in New Delhi, India also.

Hola Mahalla (Punjabi: ਹੋਲਾ ਮਹੱਲਾ, Hindi: होला मोहल्ला; also Hola Mohalla or simply Hola) is a Sikh festival which begins on the first day of the lunar month of Chett most often falls in March, and sometimes coincides with the Sikh New Year. The event lasts for a week, and consists of camping out and enjoying various displays of fighting prowess and bravery, followed by kirtan, music, and poetry. For meals, which is an integral part of the Sikh institution (Gurdwara), visitors sit together in pangats (Queues) and eat vegetarian food of the Langars. The event concludes with a long, military-style procession near Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, one of the five seats of temporal authority of the Sikhs.
